Who We Are

A Legacy Written in Timber and Time

Fexmynthkir LLC is a Colorado-based environmental consulting firm dedicated to preserving the delicate balance between human progress and the ancient wisdom of forested landscapes. Since our founding, we have partnered with private landowners, municipalities, and conservation trusts across the Rocky Mountain region to design forestry strategies that endure for generations.

Our name — drawn from an old highland dialect meaning "keeper of the whispering pines" — reflects the philosophy that guides every project we undertake. We listen before we act, we measure before we harvest, and we replant before we retire.

From high-altitude Ponderosa restoration to riparian corridor rehabilitation, our licensed foresters and ecologists apply cutting-edge science with the patience of stewards who understand that a forest is a conversation between centuries.

Why Us

The Fexmynthkir Difference

Certified Expertise

Our team holds credentials from the Society of American Foresters and Colorado State Forest Service, backed by decades of on-the-ground fieldwork.

Modern Technology

LiDAR mapping, drone surveys, and GIS analytics inform every recommendation we make — precision meets tradition.

Long-Term Partnership

We stay with our clients across decades, adjusting plans as forests grow and climates shift, ensuring resilience through change.

Our Story

Rooted in Colorado, reaching across the American West

Born from a Simple Question

Fexmynthkir LLC began in 2008 with a modest field office in Parker, Colorado, and a single guiding question: What would our forests look like if we managed them for our great-grandchildren rather than next quarter's balance sheet?

Our founder, a third-generation forester whose family had worked the Front Range since the 1930s, believed the answer lay in patient, evidence-based stewardship. Two decades later, that founding conviction still shapes every proposal we write and every seedling we plant.

Today, our team of eleven licensed foresters, wildlife biologists, and GIS specialists collaborates across public and private lands from the plains east of Parker to the high-elevation basins of the San Juans.

Our Philosophy

The Three Roots of Our Practice

Ecological Humility

A forest is older, more intricate, and more resilient than any human plan. Our first task is to observe — to understand the specific soils, microclimates, and species assemblages that make each site unique. Only after listening do we recommend action.

Generational Thinking

We measure success not in the current year's timber yield but in the health of the stand a century from now. Every prescription we write asks: what will this landscape teach the people who inherit it?

Scientific Rigor

Intuition matters, but data governs. From continuous forest inventory plots to remote-sensing analysis, we ground every decision in verifiable measurement, published research, and peer review.

The Work Behind the Name

What "Fexmynthkir" Means to Us

The word Fexmynthkir is a compound drawn from an old northern-highland dialect, loosely translated as "the keeper who listens to whispering pines." For us, it captures the essential paradox of good forestry: the forester must be both an active steward — clearing fuel, marking harvest, planting new stock — and a patient listener, attentive to signals that unfold over generations.

When our founder chose the name, he did so with the understanding that a company's name should demand something of the people who bear it. Anyone can call themselves a "forestry consultant." To carry the name Fexmynthkir is to accept a standard: no shortcut that costs a century of growth, no billable hour that outweighs the health of a watershed, no client relationship built on anything less than transparency.

Over the past eighteen years, that standard has led us to turn down projects, to redesign plans midway, and occasionally to disagree — respectfully but firmly — with landowners whose short-term goals conflicted with the long-term integrity of the land. It has also earned us the loyalty of clients who return to us not once but across generations, entrusting their family forests to the same firm their parents chose.

We are, above all, a company that believes the American West's forested landscapes are among the most valuable inheritances any society could receive. Our job is to make sure that inheritance grows, rather than diminishes, under our watch. That is what the name asks of us, and that is the promise we renew every morning we step into the field.

Full-Spectrum Practice

Where Science Meets Stewardship

Every parcel of land carries its own history, ecology, and future potential. Our service offerings are designed to meet that individuality with rigor, imagination, and a genuine commitment to outcomes that outlast us.

Forest management
01 — Foundation

Forest Management Plans

A written forest management plan is the cornerstone of every long-term stewardship relationship. We develop comprehensive documents that align landowner values with the ecological realities of the property, mapping decades of intended activity across every stand, road, and water feature.

  • Complete stand inventories and volume estimates
  • Site-specific silvicultural prescriptions
  • Regulatory compliance and cost-share program eligibility
  • Ten- and twenty-year activity schedules
Wildfire mitigation
02 — Resilience

Wildfire Mitigation & Fuel Management

Colorado's fire seasons grow longer and more severe with each passing decade. Our mitigation team designs defensible space around structures, thins overcrowded stands to healthy densities, and coordinates prescribed burn programs where appropriate — all guided by the latest fire behavior modeling.

  • Home Ignition Zone assessments
  • Mechanical fuel reduction and mastication planning
  • Prescribed burn design and permitting support
  • Community Wildfire Protection Plan development
Wildlife habitat
03 — Biodiversity

Wildlife Habitat & Biodiversity Design

A healthy forest is far more than trees. Our wildlife biologists work alongside our foresters to ensure that every management action considers the needs of the elk, mule deer, black bear, wild turkey, and countless smaller species that call these landscapes home.

  • Habitat suitability modeling for target species
  • Wildlife corridor design and connectivity analysis
  • Pollinator meadow establishment
  • Rare species surveys and mitigation planning
Watershed
04 — Water

Watershed & Riparian Protection

Nearly every human community in the West depends on water that first fell as snow or rain on a forested mountainside. Our watershed practice protects that critical infrastructure by stabilizing streambanks, restoring floodplain function, and managing forest cover with hydrology in mind.

  • Riparian buffer design and revegetation
  • Erosion control and sediment reduction
  • Post-fire watershed rehabilitation
  • Water quality monitoring programs
Carbon and inventory
05 — Future Markets

Carbon Inventory & Ecosystem Services

Forests store carbon, filter water, and shelter biodiversity — and increasingly, these services can be measured, verified, and compensated. We help landowners quantify the ecosystem value of their land and, where appropriate, connect them with legitimate carbon and conservation markets.

  • Forest carbon stock assessments
  • Baseline and monitoring for offset programs
  • Conservation easement planning
  • Verified ecosystem service reporting
Every Project Begins the Same Way

With a walk through the woods.

Before we write a single page, we spend a day — often more — on your land. We meet the trees, the ridges, the streams, and above all, we meet you. Then, and only then, do we begin to plan.
